Born in Makassar 1988, Patrick Gunawan Hartono is a young Indonesian electroacoustic composer, intermedia artist and a programmer. He earned a BMus in music composition (Cum laude) from Codarts University of the Arts Rotterdam, MMus in Sonic Arts from University of London, Goldsmiths, Computer Electroacoustic minor from Institute of Sonology, The Hague and Live Electronic Course from IRCAM, Paris. In 2017 he won ICMA audience award for his generative audiovisual piece "Matrix Studies", presented at the 43rd International Computer Music Conference joint with 6th Electroacoustic Music Week Shanghai.
Patrick’s art and musical interest are to use technology and scientific approaches as creative tools. He is also interested in 3-D sound spatialisation, analog/digital synthesis, psychoacoustic, visual music and creative application of AI. Most of his works use the sound of Indonesian traditional music instrument, computer-generated sound/images, field recordings, underwater photography; transformed, rearranged, modulated by mathematical rules, real-time interaction, and controlled random operations.
His music has been internationally performed at the festival, conference, and venue such as YCMF [Yogyakarta, Indonesia], WOCMAT [Taiwan], Sound Bridge Festival [Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia], ZKM [Karlsruhe, German], IRCAM [Paris France], NYCEMF [New York, USA], Sines and Square [Manchester, UK], ACL [Yokohama, Japan], Sonorities Festival [Belfast, Northern Ireland], ICMC [Grecee-Shanghai- Daegu] etc.
Patrick currently based in London - Jakarta where he is actively involved in local and International electroacoustic, and experimental media scene.
